The walk in detail

The official mountain leaflet gives about 35 minutes from the upper station to the Croix du Faron–Point Sublime. This is an outward reference time, not the duration of the entire outing with return, detours and photographs. At the station, pick up the trail map and look at the signs in place. Several paths run around the chapel and animal park, so knowing the destination’s name does not identify every junction. Local notices take priority over an old leaflet, especially when some paths are closed.

Faron’s paths have uneven surfaces. Wear shoes that hold your feet securely, carry water and bring protection against both sun and wind. Do not rely on finding a shop around every bend. Do not improvise a descent to Toulon along an unfamiliar path: this guide concerns an outing from the upper station returning to the same place. A full descent is another hike requiring its own preparation.

Choose your turnaround time before setting off. Map timings do not necessarily include your breaks, a queue at the station or a child slowing down at the end. If you also visit the Memorial, treat it as a separate activity and simplify the walk.

Postpone the walk if the mountain is closed, the wind is uncomfortable or thunderstorms threaten. Follow the day’s access rules and instructions even if other walkers continue further.
