Mont Faron overlooks Toulon, its port and the bay. The cable car climbs from Boulevard Amiral-Vence in about six minutes. At the top, walk to the viewpoints or visit the Provence landings memorial.

Mont Faron

The walk in detail

The journey begins at the lower station on Boulevard Amiral Vence. The Metropolitan authority gives a journey time of around six minutes. The ascent is an activity in its own right, appealing even to visitors who do not want a strenuous hike. Check the operator’s website on the morning of your visit for opening status, fares and the last downward departure. Sunshine in town does not guarantee that the cable car will run: wind or fire restrictions can change access.

Faron reaches 584 metres. Bring an extra layer even if you were comfortable in light clothing on the waterfront.

Near the cable car’s upper station, the Provence Landings Memorial tells the story of the summer of 1944 and the region’s liberation. If you enjoy history, add it to your walk at the summit. Check its opening times and ticket separately from the cable car. Set aside separate time for this visit and check its admission ticket and opening arrangements on the Memorial’s website. With children, explain beforehand that the museum addresses war and remembrance, then adapt the visit to their attention span.

The official map shows several paths and gives timings from the station: a few minutes to the Memorial, about ten to the chapel and longer to the Cross and Point Sublime area. Choose your route on arrival according to weather, energy and your return time. The paths are not equally easy. Accessible cable-car stations do not mean that the entire mountain is suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs. For a short visit, remain around the developed areas near the arrival station; for a walk, wear suitable shoes and keep well away from cliff edges.
