Notre-Dame-du-Mai overlooks Cap Sicié and the sea. Built in 1625, the chapel is associated with the May pilgrimage. Its forecourt and orientation table offer wide views.

The walk in detail

When the Corniche merveilleuse road is accessible, the Aire des Mascs provides a relatively close approach. The tourist office then describes a final uphill walk of around 900 metres to one kilometre, with a steep gradient. This figure concerns access from that stopping area, not a complete hike from Janas or Fabrégas. When the road is closed to vehicles, you cannot rely on this starting point for a short outing. Walking from Janas forest is longer.

The chapel terrace offers a broad maritime horizon, with landmarks towards the islands, harbour and inland hills. Choose an authorised spot away from passageways and exposed edges. Wind may be more noticeable here than in the forest you have just crossed.

Notre-Dame-du-Mai is also a place of worship linked to Cap Sicié’s traditions. The tourist office dates the chapel’s construction to 1625 and describes the May pilgrimage. Do not assume the interior is always open. If the votive offerings and chapel visit are your priority, check arrangements beforehand.

The corniche road has a summer closure, described by the tourist office as roughly mid-June to mid-September. Fire-risk restrictions may additionally affect the whole mountain area. Check current information rather than treating an indicative date as a guarantee of access. In summer, even the short final climb remains exposed to heat. In strong wind, rain or thunderstorms, choose another activity and return when conditions allow you to enjoy the panorama.
