Janas forest offers walks on the tracks around Cap Sicié, away from the beaches. For a first visit, choose a short route from the entrance area and identify your way back.
The walk in detail
From Janas’s visitor area, tracks lead gradually into the hills. For a first visit, choose a simple walk with an easily identifiable return. The tourist office presents Janas as popular for family strolls, walking with dogs and some sports. These uses coexist: let others pass, remain attentive and choose a pace that genuinely suits your group.
Leaf shapes, bark and the way trees grow on the slope provide small discoveries. With children, looking for differences works better than trying to name every species immediately.
Janas is also a starting point for Notre-Dame-du-Mai. The tourist office mentions the Raymond Macchi track followed by the Feuillus track beyond the corniche. If that is your plan, prepare it as a hike: climbing to the summit adds time and effort to a woodland stroll.
Shade does not guarantee cool conditions in intense heat. Carry water and check mountain access rules. Respect closures and keep emergency routes clear. For a pushchair or someone with walking difficulties, ask about the actual path selected: gradients and surfaces vary between tracks. With a dog, keep control and follow signs.
