Pipady is a small beach below the Tour Royale. You can watch boats cross the bay from the shore. A short walk around the fortress makes a pleasant addition to a swim.

The beach and its surroundings

From the beach, you can watch ferries, leisure boats and sometimes naval ships passing by. That is part of Pipady’s appeal: beach time also offers a view of the harbour’s activity. With children, compare the small boats and the large ships. For swimming, stay within the marked areas and follow the lifeguards’ instructions.

The grounds around the Tour Royale let you move from sand to a walk overlooking the harbour. The monument’s interior has separate opening hours; being able to walk around it does not mean that the building can be visited that day.

The council describes pedestrian access from Mourillon and parking near the Tour Royale. The council lists beach facilities, but showers may be restricted and lifeguard cover depends on the season.

Its limited space can fill quickly on fine days. If you bring a dog, locate the designated dog area precisely: having a dog beach in the vicinity does not permit pets on every stretch of shoreline.
