Le Plan is a 135-hectare wetland between La Garde and Le Pradet. Explore meadows, ponds and birds without a mountain climb. The nature centre also offers exhibitions and activities.
The walk in detail
The site protects one of the Mediterranean’s last large coastal wetlands. Its landscape is not fixed: water levels, meadow colours and the visibility of birds change. Binoculars can transform the outing. No particular bird is guaranteed during your visit.
The Maison départementale de la nature du Plan is a useful starting point for discovering the site and its activities. Check the programme before leaving if you want an exhibition or activity. An independent walk and a guided session require different arrangements: some activities may need booking or have a specific start time. Chemin de la Bouilla is the useful arrival address.
Stay on authorised paths and supervise children near water. Ground and access conditions can change after bad weather; do not assume that every section suits a pushchair simply because the terrain is mostly gentle. Local information helps you select the most appropriate path.
Dog rules differ by zone: dogs are prohibited in certain sensitive areas, particularly around the central ponds and in some developed spaces; elsewhere they must remain on a lead. Avoid feeding birds, leaving paths to approach animals or playing sound. Afterwards, you could extend the day in La Garde village or towards Le Pradet’s beaches, checking their open access routes separately.
