From the Notre-Dame hamlet in La Crau, allow about 30 minutes to reach Fenouillet chapel. The cross is another 15 minutes higher on a rocky peak. These times do not include the return.
The walk in detail
La Crau municipality gives about 30 minutes from Notre-Dame hamlet to the chapel, followed by another 15 minutes to the cross. These are outward reference times; add the return and stops. For a first visit, the chapel is already a worthwhile destination. The municipality describes the last section as more athletic and steep; it is not simply a flat continuation.
The hill creates a different view of La Crau, Hyères’ surroundings and the landscape connecting inland areas to the sea.
Notre-Dame du Fenouillet is an old pilgrimage site. The municipality mentions restoration in 2015–2016 and a collection of votive offerings. Check opening arrangements for an interior visit: published visiting periods are limited and do not indicate permanent access.
The cross stands on a rocky outcrop. Its panorama explains the appeal of this last effort, but footing and exposure require care. Keep away from edges and do not seek a dramatic position for a photograph. A tired group or one without suitable shoes can simply stop at the chapel. Bring water, walking shoes and enough time for a calm descent. Check fire restrictions and weather before entering the hills.
