Toulon’s opera house is a 19th-century theatre on Place Victor-Hugo. As of 25 September 2026, the building is closed for renovation. The 2026–2027 season takes place at other venues, including the Zénith and Le Liberté.
More about your visit
Work includes restoring its decoration and adapting its facilities. Official communications show progress, but photographs of a restored auditorium do not mean it has reopened. Views of the exterior depend on the construction arrangements.
The institution programmes performances away from its building: concerts, opera productions and other events are spread across venues. Zénith, Liberté and other stages have different access and surroundings. Plan your return journey around that address, especially for an evening performance.
The Opera website brings together the programme and ticket links. Check advertised duration, any interval and prices before booking. If you mainly want to tour the monument, wait for an officially announced opening or tour: this page promises no interior access during renovation.
Teams stabilised the large ceiling canvas, uncovered decoration hidden beneath later paintwork and studied older layers to recover the colours. Gilding, imitation marble and metal elements require different techniques. Photographs of the restoration allow you to study the details while the building is closed.
