Toulon’s art museum, the MAT, shows historic, modern and contemporary art, along with photography. Exhibitions change and only part of the collection is on display. The 1888 building is also worth a look for its sculpted façade and two wings.
More about your visit
The museum holds older, modern and contemporary art, along with photography. Not everything is permanently displayed: hanging choices and exhibitions determine what you actually see.
The museum naturally combines with Jardin Alexandre-Ier, Chalucet and Hôtel des Arts. Activities and guided visits sometimes require their own registration.
The programme recorded on 25 September 2026 lists Man Ray, Magie de l’image until 31 October 2026. Admission is charged, with concessions and free entry subject to eligibility. The museum website gives prices and related activities. For a stay after that date, check the next exhibition programme.
Designed by Toulon architect Stanislas Gaudensi Allar, the building opened in 1888. Look at its sculpted façade and the two wings forming a U before going inside. It also houses the Art Library. If you want to consult its books, check the library’s own opening hours and access arrangements, which may differ from those of the exhibitions.
