More about your visit

The city dates the Fort des Vignettes to the late seventeenth century, within the defensive system associated with Vauban. Damaged during the 1707 siege, it was subsequently rebuilt; the name Saint-Louis is associated with that next stage. The regional inventory supplies architectural detail.

The fort and small boats form a different landscape from the long developed beaches nearby. Move around public spaces to vary the angle, without entering reserved pontoons or working areas. Light and sea conditions greatly change the scene’s character.

The Asian Arts Museum is a natural cultural complement. You can also continue towards the beaches, keeping sightseeing and swimming time separate. The fort belongs to the French Navy: interior access is not a regular tourist service. Any exceptional opening must be confirmed by an official announcement, not inferred from an old photograph showing visitors.
